The Algarve (east)

The East Algarve stands known as the Sand Algarve with its white sand beaches. Beaches in the surrounding are among others Fuzeta (10 minutes drive), Tavira and Manta Rota, with idyllic islands with lagoons, situated in front of the coast. There is surely no shortage of typical Portuguese (fishermen) cities. Therefore, you can visit Faro (25km.) with its old centre, Tavira (12km.) and Olhao (10km.)  In the hinterland are countless pleasant authentic villages, in the middle of the wine and fruit tree orchards.

To the east of Faro stretches the Ria Formosa, a nature reserve with a peaceful bird sanctuary. The beaches along this part of the coast are flatter, wider and more deserted. Olhao is a 17th Century town built in Moorish style and known for its lively indoor fish market. Where there is African influence in the cube formed criss-cross built houses. Further east is one of the Algarve’s most elegant towns: Tavira. With its pastel-coloured houses reflected in the gliding river, minature domes, ornate belltowers, low bridges and twisting streets, Tavira has a charming, almost oriental flavour. For a wealth of sports, night-life, beautiful scenery and glorious sunshine throughout the year, the Algarve cannot be beaten.
